…. How did i end up the sort of person who is flat-felling all the seams on her blouse by hand and enjoying it? I love the fact that i am growing and changing but sometimes it’s also Very Weird.

@silverandindigo
You like creating things. You like clothing that's designed, tailored, and constructed well. Hand stitching is a pretty chill process once one has leveled up enough not to be constantly frustrated by mistakes/not meeting one's own standards. Also unlike machine sewing it's quiet and can be a social activity.

So, taste and practice? 👕

@kelkyag yeah i just used to be someone who couldn’t fathom being patient enough to hand stitch anything. Somewhere a few years ago a switch flipped and suddenly I’m much much better at enjoying process rather than always racing towards results (at the expense of quality). It’s still weird to me.

@silverandindigo
Did you imagine you'd develop such skill at clothing design and tailoring?

Early in learning, finishing something usable is very rewarding. If most of those things get used one or thrice and stuffed in a box or dismantled for parts, that's frustrating in a different dimension. Now that you have the knowledge & skills to make things you really like and will wear for years, making low-quality pieces would be a waste of your work. The balance shifts -- weird but good!

@kelkyag yeah I think it’s mostly that I spent 20 years at the slapdash, theatrical costume finish level. And also, I think it is directly correlated with some other brain chemistry and capability changes that just weren’t possible for me before. So still disconcerting!

Brain chemistry is a whole extra arena full of bears. I hope the new state is better even if the change is baffling?
