Kal Cobalt @kalcobalt

Seeking players, , etc. who would be interested in some shop talk, silliness, and general supportive friendship with an adult learning the cello.

I have a serious passion for the instrument and a couple medical conditions making learning an even more uphill battle than usual. Would love to chat cello! :blobowo:

@kalcobalt OH HEY how did it work out with that nice cellist barista????

@JakeKof OH HEY I still need to get a hold of her! Thanks for reminding me! (And why did I get a Pepper Potts/Phil Coulson vibe from this question?)

@fluffy you’re ahead of me, I just learned how to bow open strings. :) I’m deeply into the theory and the sound and appreciation though, and have a musical background so I’m hoping I can pick it up. (No illusions about it being an “easy” instrument though, ahahahaha no)

@kalcobalt I try to have at least one cello song on each of my albums. It’s such a nice sound.

@fluffy ooh, please speak to me about your albums? And yes — I briefly considered violin instead, as I had a short childhood stint with it and generally they’re less unwieldy, but that creamy-rich lower half of cello’s range just can’t be beat.

@kalcobalt my albums are all at music.sockpuppet.us and I also learned violin but I’m even worse at it than cello. :) I have some actual-violin playing (not just sampled) on my songs Better Than Before and Sliced by a Mandolin but I find the fingering too tight most of the time.

@fluffy you win just for that title Sliced by a Mandolin. Also I think I’m in the same boat fingering-wise; I have arachnodactyly (lit. “spider fingers”) — long fingers with broad spans. Violin was ok when I was little, but now it’s hard to imagine cramming all my finger-meat onto one.
