Imagine you're raising a child. The child is well-meaning but ill-mannered despite much coaching.
While visiting a friend your child is offered soup, to which they reply "yes please", then "thank you". They then pick up their spoon and SLUUUUURP.
A. Slap the spoon out of their mouth and tell them they are being rude
B. Praise them for the steps they've taken, and make a mental note that there's more work to be done
What do you think the effect of choice A might be in the future?
