Is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

I was hopeful that today would finally be a teaching day without some tech issue disrupting class.... instead construction set off a fire alarm.

I got this banana phone as a joke but it turns out it's the best Bluetooth headset I've ever used.

Help, I'm managing an international consulting firm via banana.

A fairly long shot, but does anyone else here have any experience in writing grants for LGBT+ community centers?

I'm on the board for one and it's very much a hands on process. As such, fundraising is in our hands. We've done good, but I would love to have a little bit of breathing room and would like to apply for a grant to help pay for things like, you know, rent and electricity. Anyone have any prior knowledge in that area?

Totally okay if not. Like I said, definitely a long shot.

Just had one of those “this science degree did not prepare me for the emotional aspects of a teaching job” interactions. I’m okay, just going to be taking self-care sort of evening so virtual chocolate or tea would not go amiss.

I don’t think “I like to do good work” is sufficient.

I am putting my name in for a position on one of the decision making bodies at the college. I have to write a “nominee statement” introducing myself and saying why I’d be good for the role. I hate these sorts of things with a passion.

How many kind, empathetic engineers with genius-level skill and revolutionary ideas did we lose because they were driven out by the culture of abuse and bullying that Linus promoted and exemplified?

Linus acknowledging his toxic behavior is a step in the right direction. I'm glad he's finally realizing what people (especially marginalized people) have been telling him, at great personal cost to themselves, for *years.*

While he's taking time to work on himself, I hope the Linux and open-source communities do likewise, and interrogate why we let his toxic behavior damage our community for so long.

Good morning Shop and Friends. It’s a Monday so I’ve chosen to start my day with a coffee in my mug. It’s overcast but not raining (yet) so I might be able to sneak in a walk to work without getting too wet. (I re-waterproofed my raincoat yesterday and it still smells too much like Scotchgard to wear, so I’m stuck with a non-waterproof trench coat)

Made the mistake of going out for groceries this morning. I got home safely despite tornado warnings, during rain with terrible visibility and flooded roads. I am staying home for the rest of the day; I think this has been the worst day yet for us in terms of Florence.

Still have power, thank goodness.

If you’d like to help people affected by Florence, consider donating to - they’ll get diapers, menstrual supplies, and incontinence supplies to people who need them.

@jennemmer Also amusing was just how quiet the timeline was on my older account. Really shows why I moved over here. This is where everyone I followed is.

Hey folks. Sorry for the mishap, I think the Wandering Shop is not fully back online. (RT for visibility, if you please)

What happened: Cert expired, because a command wasn't running and I didn't catch it.

Sorry for the interruption. There's only one admin (me) and when I'm away from my computer, bad things can happen. 😕

Hello Shop. I missed you ( which probably sounds silly coming from me who seems to vanish for whole weeks at a time... but I did.)

That feeling when a playing an ancient playlist and song by Moxy Fruvous comes on and you just can’t bring yourself to like it anymore because of Ghomeshi ☹️🤢😡(a “Canadian who lived through the 90s” problem)

(CW: Googling the above will get you A-cappella music and stories of abuse respectively)

Being sincere about the things you enjoy is good and important.

A quirk I love about modern english (early and current) is that whenever we noun a verb the stress moves from the first to the second syllable to denote "thing-ness"

Hence, you record a record; rebels rebel; a permit permits; an envelop envelopes; and you suspect the suspects.
