Did you know there's a paper where they spent 3 weeks training a neural net to transform giraffes into birds?
Would love to see these neural net generated court cases rendered by a real court artist.
There's a whole class of weird US court cases against inanimate objects:
United States v. Approximately 64,695 Pounds of Shark Fins
United States v One Solid Gold Object In The Form Of A Rooster
I decided to see what a neural net would make of them.
These candles don't (and probably shouldn't) exist.
I trained the neural net GPT-2 on just 72 descriptions of scented candles collected by Amy Pollien The neural net relied on its general internet training for the rest.
Scented candles from a neural net trained on 1000 existing candles
The neural net is based on math, so it is infallible. This is the future.
Here are some candy hearts written by the neural net GPT-2. It's one of the most powerful text-generating neural nets out there, but I don't think it really knows what is expected of a candy heart.
Boulder area folks!
I'll be at @boulderbooks, one of my favorite bookstores talking about You Look Like a Thing and I Love You

Neural net + jello
WHAT HAS OCCURRED CANNOT BE UNDONE
I have trained a neural net on a crowdsourced set of vintage jello-centric recipes
I believe this to possibly be the worst recipe-generating algorithm in existence
Current soundscape: wind and light rain and birds
terrible neural net recipes
Decided to see what would happen if I pitted neural net against neural net, asking the neural net GPT-2 to write recipes to go with a much simpler neural net's strange recipe titles
valiant attempt at "Crockpot Cold Water"
This AI is trying to blur the background of my webcam image, and I am making things difficult for it https://aiweirdness.com/post/190441069697/depth-of-field-fails
Huge thanks to everyone who recommended mynoise.net!
This is wizardry. I just TURNED UP THE RAIN.
it’s blocking the conversations happening mere feet away.

I decided to look back at 2019 in AI Weirdness, revisiting some of my favorite projects. I did this for 2018 too, but wow, what a lot has changed in a year!
Powerful argument for why gender detection algorithms are bad and nobody should be making them
I train neural networks to write humor at aiweirdness.com | Also a research scientist in optics. She/her
