Today, the spring equinox, is the Feast of Timoine, benign trickster deity of beginnings, sources, birth, youth and the arts. Timoine usually appears to people as a child just before puberty of their own gender and ethnicity, though red hair is common. Children in Valdyas celebrate the feast by going out at dawn in groups to dance and play. They pick the first flowers and green shoots and adorn themselves and each other with it.
Musicians and travelling players, the informal Green Guild, wear a green ribbon or scarf to show their affiilation to Timoine. It's understood that someone else has to give you your green before you're permitted to wear it. The King of Valdyas is an accomplished lute player and wears a green ribbon even on state occasions, usually to tie his hair back.
(couldn't fit this in the previous one because whatever I did it looked as if the Green Guild only wear their green at the Feast)
