~ABOUT LEAVING SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS~

I know many people here feel disdainful about birdsite, Facebook and other places. Many folks highly favour the Fediverse over these places, myself included.

However, almost all of us spent time on Facebook, birdsite and other communities. This brings up an interesting question about losing our social connections in those places when we move here.

I am from Facebook and kept my account there. This article is every reason why:

@ayachan That's absolutely why I still maintain some presence on Twitter. I wouldn't mind leaving the platform itself, but I value those social connections/friends too much to leave them.

@hummingrain *nods* ^_^ Lots of people feel that way about birdsite (what we call Twitter here in the Fediverse), Facebook and many other places. I know how hard it can be to leave these places, as I'm still on Facebook; I believe keeping accounts in these places is beneficial for many reasons.

Thank you so much for sharing your feelings.

@ayachan

I dumped my Twitter (of like 20k followers/was something they was the main public face to my work) for my mental health considering the struggle I was in at the time

And it was beneficial to that extent, now I'm more isolated and feeling my own mechanations of imposter syndrome than ever

It's a weird yes and no answer, to me

@CursedConfetti *nods* It can be difficult when your social media platform is connected with your work or your grassroots organisation. Facebook itself plays a major role in this and birdsite is increasingly becoming a platform for those who network at work via social media.

At the end of the day, I choose to be the most active where I feel the most connected and the safest. For me, that's the Fediverse.
