Keep thinking about this for the PNW...
"It is raining. It has always been raining. You're not sure when it started or when it will stop.
'It's just the winter,' your friends insist. 'It will be better soon'.
Rain runs into their mouths as they speak, drowning them on dry land.
'True natives don't use an umbrella.'
Everything is wet. No one notices.
'It's better in summer,' they repeat."
@hafnia What was that Bradbury story about Venus? Ah, "The Long Rain." That.
Wasn't there another? "All Summer in a Day"? That's what living on the west side of the Cascades reminds me of!
@hafnia Yes, that's the better-known one, I think.
Heh. Yeah, I love Bradbury's stuff about Venus. "The Long Rain" is probably closer to what winters in the PNW are actually like, on the west side, but occasionally we get sun and when I'm stuck at work I empathize with Margot. :)
@hafnia But The Long Rain has people driven to just stand, catatonic, heads up and mouths open while they drown. That's why I went with it.
