@Incandescente it really grinds my gears, especially since I used to think that way to cover up... not actually doing anything

@guerrillarain I dunno. I'm not really able to meditate either but I still find the attempt useful. Getting it down to a dull roar rather than everything squawking for attention constantly.

@keiyakins Interesting. Meditating has the opposite effect--when I'm doing something, I can focus the noise but if I am sitting there with nothing but my hands in my lap and silence, it is pure chaos.

it has a bit on meditation, and how it's so very emphasised in the west, because it's something that can be practiced alone, even though Buddhism itself is socialist

@guerrillarain I think it's the type of meditation ... There's emptying your mind and then there's observing your thoughts and feelings as they flow. Those are the two I do. The second is good for when my brain is full.

this is anecdotal at best, but-

sometimes it can be helpful to just listen to the noise in your brain for a while and see where it goes.

I get a lot of intrusive thoughts, and sometimes the best way to deal with them is to just hear them, and let them float on by.

@guerrillarain Neurotypicals are completely obsessed with silent, still, "shut up and deal with it all yourself" seated meditation. Even just having people focus on their breath can send some people with anxiety hyperventilating.

Girl Boss "positive vibes only" ppl think consuming zazen makes them better but they're just consumers. Otherwise they wouldn't be so attached to this one tool and aversive about considering anyone who can't bootstrap in silence (which is in fact everyone).
