The (optional) theme this week is , which I partly included to make me do some, but I also think it’s a useful skill to learn if you can. There's a variety of ways to do it - invisible or visible; patching, darning, embroidery, appliquΓ©s...

Anyway, I have a sweater. It doesn’t have a tag, and I bought it at a thrift store, but it has the hallmarks of the Icelandic: lopi wool, classic yoke patterning, crochet edging. 1/2 (click this toot to see the rest of the thread.)

The first bit of my sweater that I mended was the elbow. All the stitches were still there, though some of them were almost completely worn out. It’s best to darn holes before they get this bad, but I was still able to use duplicate stitch to reinforce the knitting. Duplicate stitch is often used to embroider color patterns onto knitting, but can be used to reinforce threadbare knitting.

@gannet this is really awesome! I did some mending on a sweater elbow that'd worn through a little while back.
