I can't stress this enough: Adopt older dogs.
The shelter thought that she was around 8 and said "give this sweet girl her retirement home!" Considering that we were first-time dog owners, we thought that a chill dog was what we needed.
She runs circles around us, even after three years. She's never had an accident in the house. She loves kids. She never leaves our sides.
And two weeks after we brought her home, she alerted me that I was going to have a seizure. She still does this.
@fidgety roxie is a good girl and I wish her and you continued health
seems like more heartbreak
@fidgety a sweet and good girl
@fidgety
I'm crying. I love dogs
@fireh9lly
I'm sorry that I made you cry today.
@fidgety
It's good crying
@fidgety Seconded. This old girl had a whole litter of pups who were adopted before her, but my wife and I fell in love when we saw her. She had a bit of a rough life before adoption, which seems to have made her more appreciative of her life with us. She's been our companion in almost every adventure ever since she came home with us.
@shoeberto
When Roxy came to us, I'm pretty sure that she had had a litter of pups at least fairly recently. She wasn't giving milk, but looked like she was. Plus, she wasn't spayed.
I'm so happy that your kiddo found the perfect home with you. Old dogs are the best.
@feld
Nope, not at all! It's just something that she does.
She has also alerted my husband whenever I've hit the floor, going so far as to grab his wrist and pull him into whatever room I'm in.
She's smart. I'll give her that.
@fidgety she's beautiful and I'm glad she has a good home and that she's being so helpful for you too :)
@fidgety This is such an amazing story. <3 I adopted a 5-year-old dog 10 years ago this January, and she's still running around like a puppy!
@SuzanEraslan
I'm really glad to hear that your kiddo is doing so well! You have Roxy's seal of approval.
@fidgety Yes! We brought a retired dog into our house. He was an excellent companion for three years. Your pup alerting you to seizures is just extraordinary.
I don't think a younger pup could handle all that because it wouldn't have come to us with the amount of experience that Roxy did.
Anyway, that's my ridiculous PSA for the day.
