every now and again I ask myself this question: are ppl who record videos on youtube podcasters?
#podcasting
@quantumcowboy In the knitting podcast world, some podcasters switched from audio to video podcasts, and that usually meant you could subscribe to them and your podcatcher would download the videos.
but stuff on youtube is different, at least from what I thought. I hear people call it vlogging, instead of blogging, and talking about themselves as youtubers not podcasters.
only that I have come across "podcasters" on youtube and was surprised.
@distel only if the video is of them sitting still and talking?
@DialMforMara ah, so it's the format/genre that makes it a podcast?
I've come across many people who were sitting and talking and they were calling that "vlogging" but some are vlogging from outside and are taking their camera everywhere.
@distel I think it is the format. Vlogs can be outside and moving around, but aren't necessarily. They are also, usually but not necessarily, updated more often than podcasts.
@distel The term "vodcast" used to float around the internet a bit, maybe like 15 years ago. But I've never met anyone who uses it regularly. Even my students back when I was teaching high school (and therefore my gold standard of cool terms) called them YouTube Channels, or simply channels. (And they watch far more YouTube channels than TV channels.)
