and error in "The Crown," S2E2? The opening scene shows Phil The Greek and other Brit Bros in boats displaying the Royal Navy White Ensign, but without St Patrick's Cross in the Union Flag canton. This design was about 150 years out of date at the time supposedly being depicted, no? Or is this some special usage I don't know about?

Perhaps the studio filming "The Crown" had recently been filming a 18th century naval epic and had the outdated flags in the props department, from which "The Crown" borrowed them without looking at them too closely?

@bmt Until this series of comments I thought the show was set in the 19th C based on overhearing coworkers talk about it.

@q_aurelius Well, it's like shoe sizes, the number of ounces in a pint, and other differences between this country and that. Their calendar says "20th century" but their socio-political institutions say "19th" :)

@q_aurelius And of course here in the U.S., our calendar said "2016" but our political institutions said "Ye Olde Elecktoral College, anno 1789."

@bmt All of the stories about the Electoral College were interesting to me this year, because we know that in the event things had gone the other way the stories would all have been about the genius of the founders in preserving the Republic in this way.

@q_aurelius Are your coworkers perhaps confused by trying to watch "The Crown" and that (or is it "those") current Victoria mini-series at the same time?

@bmt I think they just use a lot of pronouns and I don't pay a lot of attention to them.
