TIL there is a genre of music called “electro swing” and it is awesome.
I am having such a hard time here; literally everything in my local timeline is so enjoyable that I want to favorite and boost and follow everyone. #FirstWorldProblems, I guess
Hello shop. What wonderful things are you working on today?
Hello, shop.
I had a nightmare that a podcaster whose shows I enjoy died suddenly. It seems like a good reminder to say thanks to the people who make your world a little bit nicer while they are still able to hear it.
That includes you fine folks. Thanks, shop.
Until we moved into the house with the apple tree, I didn't realize how often apples just fell out of trees (or were knocked out by wildlife). The story of Newton getting struck on the head by a falling apple makes a lot more sense now.
A male cardinal is chasing the pair of blue jays around my apple tree. They are bright flashes or red, blue, and white on a field of green.
I just finished cleaning out my work email inbox for the first time in almost a year. Is it possible to get an email hangover?
Any machine is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.
Hello shop!
I have been reading I Thought It Was Just Me (But It Isn't) by Brené Brown (nonfiction, not SFF), and I highly recommend it, particularly if you, like me, struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, impostor syndrome, and the social pressures that come with being female. Brown has an excellent TED talk, too, if a 300-page book is too big a time investment for you.
I've been meaning to replace my 10-year old DSLR for a long time now, so I rented three of the top(ish) picks recommended by The Wirecutter for a week to try them out. Each one has an advantage over the others, so deciding which direction to go in could be difficult, and in any case, it's hard to beat the convenience of my smartphone.
I'm reminded that the best camera is the one you take with you.
I recently moved, and my new home has an apple tree in the backyard, which I can see when sitting at the computer. The apples are not quite golfball-sized, and even though I know that's normal and of course apples don't just appear on the tree fully grown in the fall, my brain can't get over the strangeness of hundreds of tiny unripe apples.
It's like imagining your grandparents as children: you know they must have been young once, but you've only ever known them with graying hair.
Small clarification: I'm looking for something that's more fiction-with-science than science-with-a-story.
Hello shop!
I'm looking for science fiction recommendations that feature real/realistic science (as opposed to science-as-magic). For reference, I loved The Martian.
Bonus internet points for non-cis-hetero-white-dude protagonist.
