Game of Thrones, no spoilers, but talking about audience reception of the ending
I wonder how long ago GRRM realized that his ending was shit and didn't account for character growth and the unexpected twists and turns unavoidable in fiction writing. I'm assuming that the show's ending is more or less what he envisioned when he started writing the books, and I'd even bet that this realization is part of why these last books have vexed him so thoroughly.
