Apparently the next battle I’m going to have to fight (and will probably lose) with fellow leftists is that Univeral Basic Income programs cannot replace disability income programs, disabled people must be able to augment UBI with additional disability income because of the costs of support needs. And this is true even if the UBI amount is larger than any existing disability benefit. Whatever anyone thinks it costs to live with disability, it’s probably double that. Or more.
@amaditalks I admit I don’t follow intricacies of UBI, but I generally support it, but the idea that UBI means losing disability support is so far removed from my understanding of UBI and not at all something that I would expect people to be arguing… but you’re not the only person I’ve seen worried about this…
I can see the argument for “we wouldn’t need the income-replacement elements of sickness benefits”, but not for disability/illness additions…
