"i use linux as my operating system," i state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. he swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision.
"actually," he says with a grin, "linux is just the kernel. you use GNU+linux."
i don't miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "i use alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU coreutils, or any other GNU code. it's linux, but it's not GNU+linux."

the smile quickly drops from the man's face. his body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth as he drop to the floor with a sickly thud. as he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!"
coolly, i reply "if windows was compiled with gcc, would that make it GNU?" i interrupt his response with "and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. even if you were correct, you won't be for long."

with a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. he lies on the floor, cold and limp. i've womansplained him to death.

its weird how like, everyone by the 90s had agreed that songs, if they have different mixes, should be

- single version
- album version (a bit longer but only by about 10 bars)
- radio mix (shorter, usually missing part of intro if its long)
- 12" mix (between 6-7 minutes long, usually breakdown section at the beginning and in the middle)
- club mix (like the 12" mix but the whole thing is a breakdown section, usually made by someone whos never heard the original song)

any time someone online posts any kind of image, say "nice loss edit" and they will spend the next four hours racking their brain to find the loss reference in it

I was wrong about Google and Facebook: there’s nothing wrong with them (so say we all)

It’s always difficult admitting you’re wrong. But sometimes you have to in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So, today, I admit that I was wrong about Google, Facebook, & surveillance capitalism in general being toxic for our human rights and democracy … it simply cannot be true given how they are endorsed by some of the most well-respected organisations in the world.

Reading lots of fantasy novels as a kid means that, as an adult, you get nostalgic about things that never happened in this universe:

My cooking isn't nearly as good as the feasts they used to have at Redwall Abbey!

What fool called it CERN and not the Collide-o-scope?

every time you feel good when you've made a connection between two different ideas or topics in your head, thats your brain rewarding you for doing data compression & deduplication & arranging the Thought Graph in a more optimal way

Alright, what's this whole New Year hoax? People weren't even coordinated enough to post at the same time.

did someone already point out that “netflix original” is the new “direct to video”
