Alright friends, I've hit a wall in my research so I'm throwing this out there:
Anybody got any references, stories or anecdotes about ancient/medieval mercenaries + marriage? Bonus points for true stories about down-on-their-luck or retired mercenaries & soldiering companies and what they did after the war was over?
Bonus bonus points for information about ancient war brides.
I can't get a good starting point just using search terms and it's driving me nuts.
I believe in you.

For my #SummerSchool talk "The Feminist #Pansori" I put together a Google Doc about the background of pansori and a plot summary of the two repertoires I will mainly be talking about, with lots of links to related media. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RE7cyz5uQKZMdOF_7T-yWf8ZwM2gO06u0b_uR36prmc/edit#
The document may be updated between now and the talk, but it's more or less complete and may serve as good advance reading for those attending, especially because I will NOT be covering all this ground in the talk--the plot summaries in particular will be drastically pared down. The document may also be of interest for those who are not attending but would like more information about pansori.
Activision Blizzard lawsuit - employee strike
I’m always extra impressed when people go on strike when they don’t have a union to support them.
I followed last years fern spore photos up (see LB) with a photo of miko under the ferns so clearly we are both very predictable creatures
Fun fact when i was taking these like half the photos came out terribly bc miko was chilling under the ferns & 100% interpreted me shifting them as an invitation to play
experiencing narratives
there's this idea of a story being complete and correctly ordered that's not actually real. it's an ideal that doesn't need to be met. something happening before something else may add dimension to it. it may create a specific experience, but you're not missing out by experiencing it another way--you may even like it more by doing it differently than intended
Argentina Formally Recognizes Nonbinary People, a Latin American First
Argentines no longer have to be identified as female or male on their national identity documents, the latest step in President Alberto Fernández’s push for gender equality.
Gender: X will be "offer as an option" on passeport, national ID doc, etc.

Not to worry tho, since the last time I updated this thread they managed to miss-bill me in a *completely different way* for the upcoming fall semester and even nice actually helpful lady was sure there was no way I could get THAT resolved until September at the earliest
So like my finances are still completely fucked lol
My persistence paid off bc when I called Wednesday someone who could Actually Do Things picked up by more or less pure chance and the whole thing was resolved in under 24 hrs
