Rachel Ann @Salixj

For the so far I've read Dublin 4 by Maeve Binchy, read two stories in Kurt Vonnegut's "While Mortal's Sleep" 30 or so pages in "Irish Rural Interiors in Art", 5 chapters in Edith Wharton's "Age of Innocence, and began a philosophy book.

@Salixj what did you think of the Vonnegut? Personally I've found him to be a mixed bag (Cats Cradle was my favorite) but I haven't read While Mortal's Sleep yet

@Satsuma Definitely a mixed bag. Some of the stories left me cold. I enjoyed Humbug and Out Brief Candle, Ruth sort of annoyed me. The stories are somewhat old fashion in ideals.

@Salixj yeah being old fashioned was definitely one of my problems with Vonnegut (the other was the way he seemed to value being shocking for the sake of being shocking, which I felt took away from his more interesting critiques of society)

@Satsuma People are an element of their time. If you read the book of shorts I'll discuss more specifically. Or maybe we can do a book club thing here and read a specific book? Doesn't have to be Vonnegut, and others could join. Hard sometimes for me to find though as I'm in Israel and don't always have access to a lot of books. LMK

@Salixj a book club would be fun if we got some other people interested, perhaps starting with older, public domain novels that are available through projects like Project Gutenberg?

Thats the cleanest way I can think of solving the issue of access, though obviously it limits the scope

@Satsuma That would work. Or books available on Openlibrary etc. if two or more copies existed.

Is there something you would like to read in particular that would fit? LMK, maybe others would join in.
