Rube Goldberg plumbing?
Apparently their neighbors reported them for renting it out as Airbnb or similar (which the city doesn't allow). Then they painted the house bright pink with giant 😜 and 🤐 emoji on it. Now the neighbors are complaining about the mural, but the city says it's on private property 🤷♂️
Honestly I'm surprised - it sounds like the kind of area that would mandate specific shades of beige paint.

I guess I'm most disappointed that this was a Sierra Club protest, and the signs were highlighted on the Los Angeles chapter's Instagram feed, and I'm a member of the Sierra Club. I feel like they ought to know better.

Saw a photo of a protest sign with the slogan "Natural gas isn't natural" and a silhouette of a gas mask with a biohazard symbol.
1. Natural gas *is* natural. It occurs (and sometimes burns) without human intervention.
2. It's not a *biohazard*. AFAIK methane isn't even toxic (though of course it is explosive). It's certainly not a pathogen.
The aim is to reduce CO2 emissions, but the sloganeering undermines the message by making them seem scientifically illiterate.
Fedibots, astroturfing Show more
On the note of fake followers, before I blocked gab.com on our https://m.abunchtell.com instance I noticed very bot-like behavior from seemingly real accounts on that instance -- very reminiscent of birdsite bots.
Definitely worth thinking about how we guard against misinformation and astroturfing in the #fediverse as this gets more prevalent. Domain blocks alone probably won't be enough -- the classic social media features we include or leave out matter, too.
actionable request re: sesame street anti-autism Show more
I saw @LexYeen mention the idea in replies and figured I'd float the request publicly: does anyone feel like they could write a phone or email script for people to use to contact PBS and/or HBO and/or the Sesame Street crew directly to speak out against this change? I think a lot of us are really angry and saddened at Sesame Street throwing their weight behind Autism Speaks, and scripts we can read and adapt and use would make it easier for us to contact them about how damaging this is.
I can boost replies to this message and fediverse posts people link in replies, and my instance has a high character limit if people want to DM me for my email and have me post their scripts.
Instagram to be Renamed to ‘Instagram from Facebook’
The second shot is a lot noisier than I'd like since I was adjusting levels on the jpeg, but I have the raw file, so maybe I'll be able to do something better with it.
(1/2) Went to Pulau Ubin, Singapore, this morning and the Butterfly Hill there was teeming with butterflies and I managed to get photos of the three Danaus sp. (Tiger) butterflies to be found in Singapore. These are the Plain Tiger (Danaus chrysippus chrysippus), the Common Tiger (Danaus genutia genutia) and the Black-veined Tiger (Danaus melanippus hegesippus).
I really wish I could remember the context of this:

Dark patterns are awful. I've been duped by so many of these.
