I just want every single person reading this, and every person in general, to be able to live comfortably and always have enough food to eat and the medications they need to take and be able to pursue their ambitions and dreams without having to constantly worry about being able to survive

Mastodon users, new and old:

You can add a caption, or alt-text, to images you toot!

These captions make your toots more accessible, by giving people who can't see the image a description of what's in the image.

Just hover over the image over you attach it and type a description in the spot that says "Describe for the visually impaired" before you hit the TOOT! button.

Please also encourage Mastodon app authors to add caption functionality. And please boost. Thanks!

Sigh

Instigating a Pomidoro correcting spree starting now. If I'm back here within 45 minutes, will someone please tell me to get back to work?

Thanks...

TIL that Bonnie Tyler recorded a French version of Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Today, take a moment to rest.

Practice kindness towards yourself. It's been a long week, most likely.

You are absolutely worthy of that kindness, just by being you.

I hope today treats you with warmth and love.

Last toot brought to you courtesy of a reread of the delightful and glorious Goblin Emporer by Katherine Addison, which is highly recommended as an antidote to the current state of world affairs.

Maia's empathy brought me to tears this time through. This novel is a jewel and I wish I could push it into everyone's hands, shouting "read this! Read this!"

You know, the older I get, the more I feel that it all comes down to compassion and empathy in the end.

Predicated, of course, on seeing _every other human being_ as (at minimum) equal to yourself and therefore deserving of compassion and empathy.

(Side note that in this theory compassion / empathy -/= blindness; one can have compassion for another person while at the same time condemning their actions and holding them responsible for the consequences of said actions.)

Home from our short week away...trees in full, gorgeous colors

Good morning Shop! Vacation is well and truly started here...a much-needed week off. Hoping for warm weather and bright leaves and a bit of a respite from my recently-resurrected imposter syndrome.

I also have a lovely pile of books I'd like to get through, starting with The Bone Season.

What's your favorite fall-specific read, food or other sensory experience? I love the sound of a crackling fire in the early evening, especially if it's complemented by hot apple cider and a great book!

On managing the constant agitation of social media:

"Finding common ground with others who share our values and taking collective actions that express those strongly held beliefs reminds us of the good in the world and the good in others. If we allow the bad news to be the only news we hear, we may give up the fight, which would be the most debilitating of all actions."

Well, hello all...by way of I'm a former US Midwesterner who now calls The Netherlands home.

I teach English and Theater in a High School and direct the musicals there. I love and , , have two novel drafts both in various stages of revision, and have been an gamer since I was 13; &D and were my first tabletop RPGs.

I also love (particularly ), , and all things .

Any Overwatch players here? The game description says it's a "team" game...can you play in a single-player mode or would I have to go online and play with others?

I'm not a misanthrope, I swear. ;) Just not interested in dealing with the added layers of online group gaming.

Hello Shop! Sorry I've been so absent...trying to juggle just a bit too much at the moment. But happy that I finished blocking the entire musical today...it's on it's feet! Needs to be honed and perfected, but at least we are on schedule. โ˜บ

Oh man. Should be correcting papers tonight but feeling so tired... please don't let this be a cold coming on...

OTOH we are two nights away from Open House at school, and I am traditionally always sick on Open House, so...the timing is evilly appropriate...

*sigh*

Off to bed with a Pratchett book, a paracetamol, and a cup of jasmine tea.

Oh no...to everyone I recommended Dicte to, the first episode of S2 has a racist storyline. :( Recommendation revoked.

Aaargh I hate saying stupid/awkward things and then obsessing about how stupid/awkward they were for hours afterward.

Brain, try to be more helpful, please.
