Looking for #knitting pattern recs: I have two skeins of fingering weight wool, about 400 yds each, one midnight blue and one rainbow striped. I’d like to make a Dreambird shawl or something similar. Can y’all tell me whether Dreambird is worth the price of the pattern, and/or recommend a pattern that does that same kind of feathery thing?
@knittingsquirrel these are great ideas! I’ve had my eye on Nymphalidea (the color repeat is too short, alas) and Svetlana Gordon’s Autumn Leaves for a while now.
But I also found this in my Ravelry library. What do you think? https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/revenge-of-the-kea
@DialMforMara i totally fall for the finesse and detailedness of the dreambild!
i guess with your colours the kea would look great too, but... *hearteyes at dreambird*🙈
😂
@knittingsquirrel
Kea it's free, is the other thing
@DialMforMara how do you stand towards the more playful/detailed vs the more subtle/clear forms?
@knittingsquirrel
Not sure what you're referring to. Do you mean the difference in how Dreambird and Kea shape the feathers?
@DialMforMara yes, for example. for me the overall impression of the two differs very much. but maybe that's just me.
@knittingsquirrel
They do look very different, and it's the short rows that make the difference. Dreambird is probably prettier on its own, but I think Kea will look better worn
@DialMforMara yeah that could be! as much as i love to look at the dreambird, i would need to know how its drape is, to decide whether i would wear it or not...
@DialMforMara woah, Dreambird looks really cool!
i think of the Nymphalidea as an alternative. it's from knitty, so it's free https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nymphalidea -but of course not as feathery!
also maybe check out those two designers, as they are queens of colourful shortrows: (haven't checked their prices!)
