When did I start inserting "like" unnecessarily into my typed communications the same way I do when I talk?

It's not unnecessary. It has specific discourse functions, like softening your tone or signaling that you're going to imitate someone instead of merely quoting. There's all kinds of research on this. #linguistics
@DialMforMara I can't argue against research. I just know for me, personally, I'm upset by my overuse of 'like,' and seeing it in my writing just drives that point home for me.
