We went from 8 minnows to 60+ in 2019. a couple dozen made it through 2020. Then down to 12 or so, for a while. Then to 2. Now we're up to 3.5. I don't know why we're only getting one fry at a time. The mother fish is getting pretty old, that could be why.

All population increases happen when they have their own tank, decreases when they are in the loach tank. They were doing fine in the loach tank for a while, until one particular loach grew large enough to fit a minnow in his mouth.
